Holy smokes, content for the Kingdom Hearts fic I haven’t updated in an eternity! Le Gasp! In all seriousness, Epic: The Musical has been living rent free in my head and the one line gave such KH Maria vibes, which in turn made me think about the planned battle for Hollow Bastion that takes place after a certain character’s death. Which in turn made me think of Riku vs Irene. 

Irene straight up snaps and attacks Sora, but Riku!Ansem interevenes. He distracts her by telling her that he was the one she wanted, as he was the one who killed Zexion and Lexaeus, and it works. Her attention is solely on him now. She loved Zexion. Lexaeus was like a father to her. She’s wants to kill this stranger. To add to her rage, she recognizes him as the one that stopped her from saving Roxas. 

As Sora is running through killing the Heartless, Maria appears. She wants vengeance. Has from day one upon learning about Castle Oblivion. She doesn’t win, though. Mickey probably appears (another subject of her hate) and gives Sora a chance to escape after surviving by himself for so long. 

Irene almost defeats Riku, but hesitates when she goes to deliver the final blow, believing she would be just like him (who murdered Zexion and Lexaeus) and Riku nearly kills her in that moment after taking advantage of her hesitation to knock her down, slashing at her, but decides to heal her when he goes to leave and takes her unconscious self somewhere safe to recover. She has severe burns after the fight, seeing as foreign darkness is poison to her, and he had used dark firaga against her. Burns carry over all the way to KH3. 

(The gauntlets Irene is wearing is actually her staff transformed, via an item Lexaeus gave her. Maria and Irene are both able to transform their weapons based on the accessories they’re given and/or are able to use a very specific trick. Marluxia’s lets Irene throw out seeds that bloom and grow into vines, trapping whoever is within range. Axel’s lets Irene throw out what’s basically akin to deadly fireworks, lol. 

Lexaeus’ gift is just more physical than magical because he’s an earth elemental, and Irene uses her own earth element to strengthen her body and deal great physical damage. One of the gauntlets shatter in her battle with Riku, though, which resulted in her facial burn as she was using the gauntlets to guard against his attack. With Zexion’s gift, her staff transforms into a type that specializes in illusion magic)

Riku literally broke the bloody cycle surrounding the Keepers of Heart by choosing to spare Irene in that moment. 

He could have very well added to it, but doesn’t, and will later learn this in Dream Drop Distance upon seeing little Micheal and Rachel, the previous Keepers of Light and Darkness, in Fantasia. He’ll also realize that the burn he gave Irene parallels the one Rachel was given by Micheal when he was failing to learn offensive magic. Sora meanwhile gets to learn the messed up origins surrounding Maria growing up in the Mysterious Tower.

And then Irene and Maria have mental breakdowns upon seeing Ienzo, Aeleus, Dilan, and Lea. Woo! Irene is paired with Zexion/Ienzo and Maria with Axel/Lea and Saix/Isa.

Riku memulai dengan suara pelan. “Ko.”

“Ha.”

“Ngadep ke aku dong.”

Arko mengalihkan pandangan dari layar ponsel. “Apaan?”

“Aku mau cerita. Kamu nggak sibuk, kan.”

Bukan pertanyaan. Bahasan seriuskah ini? Pikiran Arko berkeliaran sesaat, menerka-nerka apa yang mungkin telah dilakukan anak malu-malu seperti kembarannya. Mungkin kena tipu MLM. Sepertinya tidak mungkin, mengingat Tiffany mungkin akan mencegah kecerobohan macam itu. Atau habis kena tilang dan tidak paham cara ambil SIM balik di Jakarta. Ini mungkin, sih. Riku tidak pandai menyetir.

Heh, Arko. Serius. Ia memutar kursi untuk menghadap Riku yang duduk di kaki ranjang sambil memainkan plastik Cheetos. “Kenapa?”

“Inget nggak waktu itu aku bilang aku nggak mau dikenalin sama temen kamu, si… siapa itu namanya? Pedro? Pedal?”

“Pedal apaan coba?” Arko tertawa, tidak mengatakan bahwa dirinya juga tidak ingat. Sudah setahun berlalu dan orang itu bukan temannya, hanya koki di tempat ia bekerja yang bahkan jarang satu shift bersama.

“Ya, itulah pokoknya.” Kresek.

“Inget, inget. Kenapa?”

“Waktu itu aku bilang enggak, kan.”

“Iya?” Waktu itu juga Arko menjawab oke-oke saja. Dipikirnya Riku memang ingin fokus pada studi dan kerja, tapi sekarang Arko tahu Riku menolak karena sudah punya pacar. Tiffany pula ternyata.

“Dia, eh, dia nggak marah sama kamu, kan?” Kresek lagi.

“Hah? Enggak lah, aku sih bilangnya kamu sibuk aja.”

“Oh… oke oke. Baguslah dia gak jadi bete sama kamu atau gimana,” kata Riku, masih memainkan plastik makanan kosong dengan jemarinya. Arko tahu untuk tidak memintanya berhenti.

“Iyalah,” Arko menyahut saja.

“Ya. Nice.”

“Yeah.”

Arko diam agar Riku dapat lanjut membawa percakapan ke arah yang dia inginkan, tetapi Riku kembali berkutat dengan plastik, menunduk.

“So?” Arko angkat bicara.

“So, um,” akhirnya Riku membuka mulut, masih tidak menatap Arko. “Aku waktu itu nolak, nolaknya karena, ummm, udah punya pacar.”  

Nyaris Arko menjawab, loh, iya. Fane kan? tapi buru-buru ditelan kata-kata itu. Riku bersikap seperti Arko tidak tahu. Ini tes, kah? Atau Riku memang tidak tahu Arko sudah tahu? “Nice,” sahut Arko. “Mau ngenalin yaaa?” sengaja ia bernada meledek agar Riku tidak gugup-gugup amat.

“Iya.”

“Oke?” Arko menunggu.

“Tapi kamu mesti janji!” Riku memanyunkan bibir.

“Janji apa?”

“Nggak boleh jijik sama aku.”

Arko tertawa. Bolehkah ia tertawa dalam situasi ini? Entah, tapi ia tak yakin bagaimana menjawab agar Riku tidak berprasangka buruk. “Nggak bakalan lah!” akhirnya ia memilih untuk tidak menambah embel-embel seperti jangan serius-serius amat, dong (nanti Riku menganggapnya meremehkan) atau kita kan saudaraan (kata-kata seperti itu tidak memberi rasa tenang sama sekali).

“Beneran, ya.”

“Iya, bener. Janji.”

Riku menunduk ke kanan, menjauhi wajahnya dari pandangan Arko.

Kresek.

“Kalo kubilang... uh... kamu udah kenal pacarku gimana?”

“Good then,” Arko mengangguk-angguk meski Riku tidak melihatnya. “Do I like them?”

Jemari Riku berhenti memainkan plastik Cheetos, menoleh cepat ke Arko saat mendengar kata them. Arko merasa menang dan di kepalanya ia menepuk pundak sendiri. Bagus, bagus.

“Yeah. You like her.” Akhirnya Riku berkata. Wajahnya pucat di bawah lampu redup kamar Arko.

“Good to hear,” lancar betul Arko menjawab. Sepertinya itu respon terbaik yang dapat ia berikan. Kasual? Biasa saja? Takut betul rasanya ia membuat saudaranya itu merasa ia menggampangkan, padahal intensinya untuk menunjukkan sikap suportif dan positif, tapi, tapi Riku sering negative thinking, jadi bisa saja ia salah paham? Arko pusing sendiri. Yang come out saudaranya yang mumet justru diri sendiri. Padahal tinggal terima-terima saja, kan? Alis Riku bertaut mendengar respon kelewat santai itu. Arko sudah memampus-mampusi diri sendiri di dalam hati.

“It’s, uh… a her.” Suara Riku bergetar sedikit.

“Well,” that’s good? That’s great? I’m happy for you? Are you gonna tell me her name? I don’t mind either way and it’s not my place to tell you who to love? Love is love no matter what? That’s better than you dating some asshole fucker I don’t know? Arko berputar-putar memikirkan apa respon yang baik yang tidak terdengar menyepelekan, merendahkan, respon apapun yang tidak terdengar tak menyenangkan. Sejak mulai bekerja ia sering berhadapan dengan orang-orang dengan segala seksualitas dan identitas gender dan ia selalu baik-baik saja, tapi kenapa sulit betul memilih kata-kata untuk menjawab adiknya? “Well, nice. Siapa tuh orangnya?”

“Kamu nggak kaget pacar aku cewek?”

Kalau dijawab tidak, apakah Arko akan terdengar terlalu memaksakan? Pusing. Kalau dijawab iya, selain bohong juga Riku akan menarik diri. “Enggak, sih,” akhirnya Arko menyahut setelah beberapa milisekon berpikir. “Love’s love.”

“Oke… beneran nih, ya.”

“Beneraaan.”

Kerut-kerut di dahi Riku mulai hilang dan ujung bibirnya rileks. Arko tersenyum. Sukses, sukses.

“Aren’t you gonna ask anything?” tanya Riku setelah mereka saling tatap dalam diam beberapa saat.

“Siapa pacarnya.”

“Ya kalo cewek kamu kan pasti bisa nebak.”

“Hm… Fane ya?”

“Iya.”

“Tuh, aku jago kan.”

“More like aku nggak deket sama siapa-siapa yang lain, jadi gampang nebaknya,” Riku tertawa. Akhirnya dia rileks juga, Arko mengangguk-angguk pada dirinya sendiri.

“Sejak kapan pacarannya?” Pura-pura terkejut, Arko menepuk tangan ke mulut. “Jangan-jangan udah dari kita masih kecil banget itu!?”

Tawa Riku semakin lepas. “Enggak lah! Baru dari taun lalu, pas aku di Belanda…” cerita mulai mengalir. Dan kembali, semua terasa normal dan Arko dapat melepas napas yang entah sudah berapa lama ditahannya.

“Ri, kalo kubilang aku sebenernya udah tau sebelum kamu ngomong kemarin malem gimana?” Arko bertanya saat mereka menyantap sarapan di ruang tengah.

Riku melotot. Sendoknya yang berisi sesuap sereal tanpa susu jatuh ke mangkuk. “Hah?”

“Iya, aku kira kamu udah tau kalo aku tau!”

“Nggak, lah! Kan aku nggak pernah bilang!” wajah Riku memerah. “Pantes kemaren nggak kaget! Kapan kamu taunya?”

“Bulan lalu kan kita jalan bertiga, terus pas pulangnya kamu nganter dia sampe rumah, pake ciuman di depan pintu—”

“HAH. Kamu liat?!”

“Ya liat, lah. Mata aku gak mines.” Arko terkekeh, sementara Riku mengerucutkan bibir. Manyun. tapi matanya berbinar-binar seperti ingin tersenyum, dan itu yang terpenting.

notes: both riku and arko are terrible overthinkers. but often riku’s focused of possible negative responses and feelings others feel for her while arko’s more focused in how to carry conversations and interactions flow as perfectly as possible. they’re a mess, this pair of twins.

Ping. Then another one. Ping. Riku was flooded with new Oscar messages during his bike ride and stopped to check and reply. He felt like laughing as it was fun seeing this side of him, but also crying along. Somehow, several points he was making were relatable, he used to be like this! When Riku thought the texts had ended, Oscar called and he just couldn't ignore him.

"You know what I did?" Oscar continued before Riku could respond, "It was going well, I said hi, I excused myself for a bit. And like an idiot, I'm now hiding behind a tree." Riku burst out laughing, he was hiding, "STOP HIDING AND GO TO HER!!!" Oscar chuckled at his own awkwardness, "But I'm freaking out man. Suzume, she's beautiful."

Meanwhile, Suzume walked around hoping to find Oscar. She didn't even get to see his face properly before he ran off (yes he ran off). Around the corner, Suzume saw him talking on his phone and ended up hearing his conversation. Suzume, she's beautiful; her heart fluttered at his words. Wanting to see his face again, she moved closer.

Then he turned around.

so, kh1. its been. a little while since i played. so forgive me if the game isnt exactly fresh in my mind. theres maybe gonna be errors so please bear with me im trying my best.

this is probably the kh game i have the least thoughts on, which feels weird considering its the first game in the series, but i just dont have a lot of strong opinions on it. its a pretty solid game!

starting where i normally do, the gameplay is probably the worst aspect of the game. they really thought platforming would be a fun thing in this game, but its just. not. the physics are so bad oh my god. if i ever have to jump in kh1 again itll be too soon. the difficulty is also a little bit all over the place. i played on standard (like i do with pretty much every game) and i would randomly jump from breezing through the game to trying a hundred times to fight one boss. most of the time its not the fun kind of difficult, just frustrating. the only time i can remember the difficulty being fun is the last riku fight in hollow bastion. i wish more of the game was the fun kind of hard. strangely enough, i know a lot of people struggled with the riku race and fight in the tutorial, but honestly those were easy for me? i got the fight first try, and the race second. idk, get on my level nerds i guess?

the worlds here are hit or miss. some of them (mostly the original ones, hollow bastion and traverse town specifically) are just amazing and i love them. others are. uh. lets say getting rid of the tarzan world was the best thing to come out of copyright law. also, this game is the only one where i skipped an entire world (sorry atlantica, you fucking suck). so theres that. the disney worlds are probably my least favorite aspect of the game

the story is alright! i dont have much to say about it other than i think that its mostly pretty good when i know whats going on, although both me AND one of my friends were so confused at the ending that we had to go call someone else to ask what the fuck happened and honestly i still dont really know? what the fuck is a kingdom hearts you ask? the world may never know.

this game and 2 are the only ones where maleficent is good. i miss when she was like a fun villain. she was just super into the housing market and i love that. what the fuck is she even doing in ddd? getting into bitcoin????

rikus great, i dont think i need to say that. hes such a freak and i love him. soras pretty good, shoutout to haley joel osman for doing a great job for being uh. 12??? at the time???????? hes great. i know a lot of people really like ansem sod but i just dont get the appeal? he never did anything for me. like hes fine i just didnt care about him whatsoever and anyone who says hes a better villain than like. xemnas. is wrong.

0/10 where is axel. ok but seriously uhhhhhh i give it a 7.7/10. its a solid, enjoyable game! not my favorite, but thats not to say i dislike it at all.
